13 schools will be competing on 11/25 in the McDonald Gym on Hoke High's campus.  This tournament is a dual team format.  Each team will wrestle 5 other teams during the day. There are several perennial top teams participating this year.  

The teams are East Wake, Scotland, Cary, Lumberton, Laney, Athens Drive, Lee County, Hoke, Cape Fear, Wake Forest, Richmond, Pine Forest, and St. Pauls. 

Cost for today's event is $10 per person and it starts at 11:30 am.

The Hoke wrestling team will take 10 wrestlers to participate in the Feud in the Forest individual tournament held at Pine Forest.  This year 21 schools are scheduled to participate.  The teams are: Athens Drive, Cape Fear, Clayton, Fuquay-Varina, Harnett Central, Hoke, Hunt, Jack Britt, Leesville, Millbrook, Neuse Charter, Pine Forest, Purnell Swett, Rosewood, Seventy-Firest, Smithfield, St Pauls, Terry Sanford, Triton, and Westover.

The tournament starts at 9.

Hoke County High School's All Sports Camp for the youth of Hoke County begins Monday at 8 am. The wrestling portion will be Tuesday from 8 - Noon (Check IC, Breakfast, Camp, Lunch, check out). Those participating with the 7 wrestlers that have registered need to be at the school by 8 am. We will have regular practice on Wednesday and Thursday. The following week is a dead period so we will begin practice again the last week of July. The whole month of August is a dead period.

We are hosting the annual All Sports Camp next week and need volunteers to work wrestling. Contact Coach Locklear to set up times.

  Bailey Cooper represents Ferrum College at 125 and is competing in this weekends NCAA DIII East Regional.  Bailey will place in the top 6 of the tournament.  He will be wrestling for 5th this afternoon. (Sunday 2/28/16)

The Bucks traveled to Jack Britt Friday and Saturday to compete in the NCHSAA 4A State Eastern Regional.  The Bucks finished a5 17th with 28 team points.

Steven Warren placed third in the tournament gaining him entry into this weeks NCHSAA 4A State Championship in Greensboro.  The tournament is a three day event.  Warren was a 6th seed and started the match off against the 11th seed James Benjamin from Lumberton (24-23) winning a close match by decision 6-5.  Next of Steven's agenda was the three seed Eric Cabingas from New Bern (17-4) which was a mild upset as Warren pinned Cabingas in 2:29.  The number two seed and former State Champion from Laney, Kevin Saravia (36-4) was next on Steven's half of the bracket.  This was Warren's only setback of the tournament getting pinned by Saravia.

Warren only needed to win his next match to gain entry into the State Tournament and his fate had him facing a common opponent for the fourth time this season and the third time in the last two weeks in Benjamin of Lumberton.  Warren had just barely defeated the Lumberton wrestler on Friday in a come from behind manner.  Warren dominated the match this time getting a 10 point lead before finishing him by pin in 4:53. 

Warren could have been satisfied with his automatic berth but stated he wanted to take care of buiness so that he would be taking on the number two seed of the other regionals on Thursday by finishing third in our region.  For the second straight match Warren was facing a common foe of this tournament in Cabingas from New Bern.  Warren dominated this match as well and earned a major decision 10-2, finishing in third for the Bucks.

Warren will travel to Greensboro Thursday - Saturday to compete in the State Wrestling Championship.

The Bucks' wrestling team has been decimated by injuries this season forcing forfeits.  Still the team is young and stuck together which is great for next season.  We only have two seniors that will be leaving us this season and we hope everyone comes back next season where we can be strong and competitive again.

We had two All Conference Wrestlers this season.  To earn this honor you must finish 1st or 2nd in the tournament.  Steve Warren (so) at 113 went 5-0 on the day while Harley Ellis (jr) at 285 went 4-1.  Stevie was also nominated for Most Outstanding Wrestler consideration.
