Hoke County High School's Head Coach, Vernon Walworth has been named National Wrestling Coaches Association (NWCA) Girl’s Head Coach of the Year for the state of North Carolina. In winning the State Coach of the Year honor, Coach Walworth became a finalist for the NWCA National Girl’s Coach of the Year Award.

Coach Walworth’s accomplishments include the following:  Hoke girls team competed in first-ever state wrestling tournament in February. In spite of injuries, he brought three girls. Two of his wrestlers placed

in their respective weight classes.

ADDITIONAL INFO: Vernon began pushing for a separate women's wrestling division in NC about 10 years ago. He's one of the first coaches in NC to host girls only tournaments His girls team in 2020-2021 will be one of the first-ever teams recognized by the state as separate from the boys team and he's organizing a girls team dual match with other school, most likely a first ever event.
